Induction – Epidural

D was in a lot of pain last evening. She took some analgesics which gave her temporary relief but the pain was excruciating everytime the drug wore off. She also threw up a couple of times; a side effect of analgesics.

We finally decided to go for epidural. She immediately felt relaxed, sleepy and tired, emotions she felt for the first time in the last 12 hrs before epidural. She could finally get some rest and let petocin do its job.

Her last cervical exam showed she is 6 cm dilated. Next check is in a few hours from now.

Induction pitocin part 1

So the nurse checked for dilation an hour ago, D is dilating slowly. The cervix has thinned out and she is dilated around 1cm or so. Good news is the baby has dropped lower. So it’s a progress!

Contractions are getting stronger every hour and D is handling them like a champ! So proud of her!

Next steps are basically..Go Pitocin!

Water break

So D’s water broke around 3:30AM today. She was not dilated around that time.

Nurse was going to start pitocin, but D’s contractions started to become regular, around 4-5 minutes apart and 40-50 seconds.

Nurse decided to wait for a couple of hours before giving pitocin to see if her contractions progresses as expected.

LnD – part 1

We are at Labor and Delivery (LnD) now. They are monitoring baby’s heartbeat and D’s contractions. Heartbeat looks strong and good. Monitoring shows contractions are happening but are inconsistent.

D’s blood pressure looks good too. The spike at the doctor’s office was one-off.

Nurse is here again, checked D’s cervix. Cervix is soft but not dilated yet. Nurse said softening of the cervix is good as it would help with the induction.

A urine sample is also collected.
